Two year celebration!

This week we celebrated the 2 year anniversary of the Comodoro Rivadavia Mission. We went to the Doradillo, a super beautiful beach, to go whale watching.

This week we also taught Valeria, our atheist, about the Book of Mormon.

Our miracle this week happened in our Noche Blanca. The cousins of Rodrigo got baptized. The Aunt of Rodrigo is Evangelica and lives with Rodrigo. We have tried to talk about religion with her, but she always leaves the room. That night she asked us, [If I were to get baptized in your church would my brother be able to baptize me? (Basically we were super surprised and happy!) We are going to try teaching her the lessons again.

I am grateful for this gospel and for the hope it gives us. We are never out of reach of the Savior's love.

Six Month Mark!

No pics this week...but a good email.  Thank you for your love and support of our Hermana Davis!

I hit my 6 month mark this week. Wow, I can´t even describe how fast time goes down here. I am excited to progress and improve even more in this coming year.

This week was a busy one.

1. We are visiting un monton de menos activos.(a ton of in actives) I love teaching menos activos because they have the seed of faith planted in their hearts. They just need to be reminded that their Savior loves them and that Jesus Christ is the only way back to our Heavenly Father. We can´t do this alone and we don´t have to do it alone.

2. I did divisions with the other Hermana Davis. We worked so hard and laughed even harder. Our contacts went a little something like this:

¨Hola, soy hermana Davis

Hola, soy hermana Davis tambien

Pero, no somos hermanas. (person smiles and then wants to be baptized.)

 TRANSLATION: Hi, I'm Sister Davis.  Hi, I'm Sister Davis also.... but we are not sisters.  Then the person smiles and wants to be baptized.)

3. Hermana Davis cut my hair (surprise mom!) Don´t worry, she went to hair school so it didn´t turn out feo. (ugly)

4. We taught our atheist (Valeria) about the plan of Salvation. She asked if bad people could end up in the sun kingdom (Celestial kingdom) We answered with a resounding ¨Yes!¨ That is the point of this life: To change from the natural man to someone who can live with God. We´ll keep you updated on her progress.

5. We have a new investigator! Her name is Raquel. She is the mother of a contact. Her daughter (the contact) told her mom that the missionaries would be passing by and to let us in. Her mom did just that and we had a powerful lesson about the plan of Salvation.

Challenge time: Have a family night about the plan of Salvation. Make goals as a family to make it to the celestial kingdom. It´s not an impossible goal. In fact, God wants every one of his children to make it. He has provided us with a lot of tools to make it to our destination.

Dear Friends and Family:

Here are highlights of what I did this week:

1. Conferencia con Presidente Rogers. We learned about temples and why they are so important. We have a bunch of inactive members in our area. Our plan is to teach them about the temple. We also learned about the power of our thoughts. A thought comes before every action. If we learn to harness the power of our thoughts we can change our actions and our lives. The atonement can help us learn to control our thoughts.

2. We have two atheist investigators (from different families). One of them has a 6 year old daughter who doesn't know about God. We taught her that God is our Father and he wants to bless us. It was a neat experience. 

3. We did a Noche de Hogar (FHE) with Rodrigo. He lives with his grandparents. They sang some typical Peruvian music and we ate pizza.

4. We contacted a house and met Francisco. He is 11 years old. We showed him the book of Mormon and a card with questions. We asked him if he had ever asked himself any of the questions on the card. He said that he had asked if God really knew him, where do we go after death, and how can he stay away from sin. We looked up the answers in the Book of Mormon. It was basically the best contact ever.

5. Silvia, our menos activa, (less-active) came to church! Not only that, but she participated in the lesson and shared her spiritual experiences. Que Capa!!! I love seeing menos activos progress!

6. This morning we walked along the beach in hopes of catching a glimpse of some whales (ballenas). We didn't see any, but we did see a seal and a bunch of stray dogs. 

Challenge: Read a talk by Elder Bednar. He's a capo! Right now I am reading "In the strength of the Lord."

"Puerto Madryn - the area of my dreams!!"

Dear family:

Un monton de cosas(many things)  happened this week!!! Here´s the list:

-On the way to the terminal our remis (I think that's a taxi) hit another car (Just a strong tap, I´m alright.) I missed my collectivo (bus) and had to take another one. I arrived in my area at 2am a little stressed and super exhausted.

-Our pension is huge!!! We have two floors and a separate room for our desks. I love it!

-The area is absolutely gorgeous. I´ve almost convinced myself that I am going to live here and never go back to states...almost :)

-We have a neighborhood in our area that is big and cement with lots of little apartments. It´s like Sesame Street, but a lot more sketchy. It´s re-copado (super awesome!) . Voy a mandar pictures. ( I will send pics...which she couldn't because her computer wouldn't let her.  Next week...!)

-My compa is una capa! (my companion is awesome!) She is super obedient, loves cleaning, cooks healthy foods, and loves to work. Needless to say, we get along swimmingly.

-We have a truckload of work to do in this area! We have a bunch of menos activos. (less active) Our investigator, Cynthia, has a baptismal date for the 27th. She needs asistencias,(to attend church)  but si se puede. (yes she can!) She is 24 years old and has a son. She has had a really tough life, but the word of God heals the wounded soul.

-We have a converso reciente (recent convert) named Rodrigo. He is ten years old and is an absolute joy! He lives with his grandparents and is the only member. Well, his grandma is a member but right now she is going to an Evangelico church.

-We teach Zumba classes! A ton of menos active members come and it´s a blast! We have special permission from Pres so we are able to participate.

-The members are de diez!(super great!)  I love them already :D

-My english is a disaster! I speak spanish casi 24/7. It´s the best and I am learning a ton!

Challenge: Stop the gossip! We have tons of gossip in our mission and it just causes problems. Don´t talk bad about others, even if it is ¨the truth.¨Catch yourself in the act and then change your habits. There are much better things to talk about than to degrade one of God´s children.

Transfer time: I am going to Puerto Madryn, the most Northern part of my mission. There are whales and the winter is more mild than the rest of the Patagonia. My comp, Hna Gutierrez will be training a new missionary in Caleta. I am so proud of her! My new comp is Hna Rodriguez from Peru. I will meet her tonight after my 7 hour ride to Puerto Madryn.

This week has been relatively uneventful. My companion woke up one morning with a throat infection with flu-like symptoms. President told us to go to the clinic. At the clinic they prescibed her 3 medications and forbid us to leave the pension for a few days. We both got really stir crazy... I am ready to tear things up in my new area!!!

Challenge time: Part 1: put a picture of Christ in your bedroom. Part 2: Study one miracle from the life of Christ. You can find a lot in the New testament. Focus on the characteristics of Christ, how he treated others, and how the person receiving the miracle demonstrated faith.
